Bob Kelleher Speaks Out on Senate Bailout Bill
October 2, 2008 4:23 PM MDT --
“Last night on national TV with Finance Committee Chair Max Baucus watching from behind them the Democratic and Republican Leaders congratulated each other for collecting the 75 ‘aye’ votes needed to pass a revised Senate ‘bailout’ Bill. Finance committee chair Baucus proceeded to the microphone telling the audience ‘we have solved this crisis’. He failed to note his fellow Montana Democrat, Jon Tester, voted ‘nay’ because Tester felt the revised Senate bill failed to protect taxpayers from a repeat collapse in the future,” Republican senate candidate Bob Kelleher declared Thursday.
“Baucus also neglected to tell his TV audience that on November 4,
1999 he, Baucus, voted for Senate Bill 900, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley
Act. Senate Bill 900 abolished all of the protections against such a
financial disaster established during the FDR Congresses in the
thirties following the 1929 stock market crash,” the Butte lawyer
concluded.
